What does refurbished mean to us?
Second-hand or refurbished?
A second-hand laptop is usually a device that’s resold as-is: a quick clean, a fresh Windows installation, and done.
With refurbished there’s more to it — a lot more.
At TopLaptop every laptop is checked and tested individually and thoroughly. We really open it up once: dust out, fresh thermal paste, memory and storage tested and topped up where needed, connections measured, keyboard and screen checked.
Where needed, we replace parts straight away — not only once something breaks.
That’s more efficient (so better value for you) and better for the laptop itself: fewer times unscrewed, less risk of wear, and full peace of mind.
Our motto: refurbished is only refurbished once it’s technically as good as new again – inside and out.

Every laptop we select is upfurbished by us. This is our own standard, where we don’t just overhaul the laptop but immediately lift it to a higher level. A TopLaptop comes as standard with:

Refurbished grades – the cosmetic condition
At TopLaptop we draw a sharp distinction between technology and appearance. How a laptop looks on the outside says nothing about the performance inside. A scratch on the casing has no effect on the speed of your processor.
The technology is always 100%
Every TopLaptop gets the same thorough treatment: dusted out, solder joints checked, new thermal paste where needed, and extensively tested. Batteries and screens are always strictly checked. So the technology is always top-notch — the cosmetic condition is yours to choose.
The surfaces legend
To objectively determine the condition a laptop is in, we look at five surfaces. That way you know exactly where to expect any signs of use:
- Surface A: the lid (the side with the logo).
- Surface B: the screen and the surround (bezel).
- Surface C: the inside (keyboard and palm rest).
- Surface D: the underside (bottom).
- Surface E: the sides (ports and edges).

These items are in top condition and come in their original, unopened packaging or in neutral, sturdy shipping packaging. All accessories are included (except the manual).

These items are technically in top condition, but no longer brand new. There may be light cosmetic marks, such as a superficial scratch or a smudge on the casing (never on the screen). These marks are usually on the less visible surfaces, like the side or underside. Ideal if you want a technically perfect device but don’t want to pay top dollar for a flawless exterior.
● ○ ○ Signs of use (B)
These laptops are technically exactly as good as our other ones, but carry the traces of a previous life. There are clearly visible scratches on the casing, or light wear on the palm rest or keys. The screen is always neat and free of distracting scratches. This is the best choice if you want maximum computing power for a keen price and you don’t lose sleep over looks. An honest workhorse.

The technology is top, the looks are not. These devices show clear wear, such as deeper scratches, discolouration or a small dent in the casing. Rest assured: the screen is technically fine and the laptop has been fully overhauled internally and dusted out. The lowest price of all for those who only care about performance.
